Audio surveillance

Audio surveillance involves covertly receiving audio intelligence by means of listening devices or electronic audio surveillance equipment. The two main forms of audio surveillance entail wiretapping and bugging. Audio surveillance equipment enables the user of listening devices to monitor, record, and transmit confidential conversations without the knowledge of those under audio surveillance.

Q: Why is there a need for Audio Surveillance equipment?

A: Audio Surveillance equipment was originally designed for police and government use. Police users employ audio surveillance equipment to gather information on criminals and suspected felons. Because police and security agencies may be distanced from conversations of possible terrorist and criminal elements, the need presents itself to be able to acquire intelligence of illicit activities before and while they happen.
